“Amazon India is one of the applicants whose application has been approved to operate and carry on with their business on a 24/7 basis in the national capital,” an official from Delhi LG‘s office said.
This permission will enable Amazon to make round-the-clock delivery of products in Delhi.
As per reports, a notification to this effect will be issued within a week. “The LG has ordered that such applications be disposed of within a strict timeline to foster an investor and business-friendly environment in Delhi,” officials said.
Amazon had submitted the application around three years ago. In all, 314 entities have been granted this approval.
These entities include hotels, restaurants, eateries, online delivery services of food, medicines, logistics and other essential commodities, transport and travel services. Besides, KPOs and BPOs will also be able to carry on their work on a 24X7 basis in Delhi.
The decision is basically an exemption under Sections 14, 15 and 16 of the Delhi Shops & Establishment Act, 1954. The new policy is expected to boost employment generation in the capital. It will “promote a positive and a favourable business environment in the city,” officials said.
According to reports, the LG has directed the Labour department to make sure that delays in permissions to businesses do not occur in future. He also asked for a mechanism to be developed for transparent and effective monitoring with reasons of pendency to be ascertained in disposal of applications related to ease of doing business, officials added.
